How Chiropractic Care Can Help Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP) in Pregnancy

Hello and welcome to Dundee Chiropractic Clinic’s information centre. We are glad that you have found us!

Our aim is to arm you with all the information that you need, in order to make informed choices about your care during your pregnancy journey.

Today we are looking at Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP), what it is and the impact it can have and also how we can help you overcome this.

What is Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP)?

Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain is a very common condition that affects almost half of the pregnant population.

PGP is a term used to describe pain in the joints of your hips, pelvis and surrounding areas during pregnancy. Although this can vary across different people.

It can have a major impact on your wellbeing during what should be an exciting, and hopefully stress free, time, and hinder day to day movements such as:

o   Walking

o   Standing for prolonged periods

o   Climbing and descending stairs

Among many other things.

PGP does not always stop once you have given birth and can continue to impact your daily life even after you baby is born.

How do I know if I have PGP?

If you are currently pregnant and have pain in your hips and pelvis then you may be suffering from PGP.

You should seek advice from a clinical professional on how to manage this.

Why chose chiropractic care for treatment?

Pain is not normal! And you do not have to suffer in silence.

Chiropractic care is a regulated practice that focuses on the musculoskeletal system and nervous system

During pregnancy your body will go though many changes, putting strain on your ligaments and joints, and can lead to PGP.

Chiropractic care is a safe and gentle way to increase your comfort and minimise pain during this time.

Manual therapy is a proven treatment for PGP with a high success rate.

Chiropractic care is a holistic practice. Therefore, it will not only look at your physical health but also your day to day and mental wellbeing.

Your chiropractor can give advice on nutrition, posture, and exercise.
